Family migrants

You came to the Netherlands to marry or live together with your partner. Your partner helps you get to know your new municipality and society. With us, you make a plan to learn the language and culture.

Together we make a plan

We will first discuss questions such as:
  • Who are you?
  • What did you do for education and work?
  • What are your wishes and plans in the Netherlands?
  • How quickly can you learn Dutch? You take a test to find out: the learning ability test

We call those conversations a Broad Intake.

After the interviews, together we make an Integration and Participation Plan, which includes:
  • How you are going to learn Dutch. This is the integration route you will follow.
  • How you are going to learn about norms and values in the Netherlands. You do this through the Participation Statement track (PVT, Participatieverklaringstraject).

Integration routes

Learning Dutch is important to feel comfortable in society. As a family migrant, you pay the cost of your exam and course yourself. There are 3 learning routes you can follow. You can also try to pass your exams via self-study.

  • B1 route
With this course you will learn the Dutch language at B1 level: this will enable you to do paid work or volunteer work. At the end of the B1 route, you take an exam.
  • Education Route
Would you like to go to MBO, HBO or university? Then you can follow the education route. You will quickly learn good Dutch. You also get other lessons, for example math and English. At the end of the education route you take an exam: Staatsexamen nt2.
  • Self-reliance route (Z-route)
Maybe the B1 route and education route are too difficult. Then you do the self-reliance route (Z-route). You learn Dutch as well as you can. That way, you will be able to do many things in the Netherlands yourself, or with a little help. For example, go to the doctor, talk to your child's teacher or join an activity in your neighborhood.

ROC is a major provider of the three routes in our region.

Participation and integration: the participation statement

Talking about values and habits is also important. And about how to participate in society. For example:

  • Everyone in the Netherlands is equal.
  • Everyone is allowed to say what they think.
  • We take care of ourselves. And we help each other. The government helps people who need it

We have a course for that, the PvT. This takes a total of 12 hours. Your Plan of Integration and Participation will tell you exactly what you will do for the PVT.

Labour market and participation Module (MAP).

An important goal is for you to find gainful employment. You therefore also take the Labor Market and Participation Module (MAP).

For example, you will learn:

  • What types of occupations there are
  • What occupations match your education or previous work
  • What you need and need to be able to do this in the Netherlands
  • How to job search and apply for jobs
